What brings you peace?

In hardship— disease, disagreement, big decisions or the overwhelm of daily life— it’s often difficult to think of how to find comfort.

The time we most need a tool is almost always the worst time to try and forge it, and though we all experience hardship, we often shy away from talking about it, which leaves us more ill-equipped to deal with it when it arrives.

We polled the Prism team for ways they seek peace and comfort, and this is what Jerrie and Monika have to say:

I enjoy getting up before sunup most every morning to walk my dogs one by one. I love this time of the day as it is very quiet and allows me to time to reflect on life in general, provide exercise and one-on-one time with my fur babies. I also get to enjoy the sight of shooting stars, a beautiful full moon and beautiful sun rises. A gym does not give me any of these things! - Jerrie

When I feel unbalanced and stressed with life, the one thing that grounds me back to finding peace within myself is sitting with Jesus in the Adoration Chapel at my Catholic Church. Adoration is an opportunity for the faithful to sit in prayer quietly with Jesus Christ before the Eucharist. No distractions and my cell phone on silent, I kneel down and surrender my heart to Jesus with my sadness and happiness in front of the Eucharist. After I have said a rosary and other prayers, I then simply sit in silence hoping to hear Him speak to me. It is an experience of surreal peace. Each and every time, I walk away feeling Jesus’ love for me but also the gift of clarity, direction, and peace.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. -Philippians 4:6-7

-Monika

What about you? What brings you peace and comfort? Is it sharing a meal with your family? Laughing at an old favorite comedy? Talking to someone in particular? Let us know!
We’re all in this together.
