Monika Goes To Medjugorje
At the end of May, our resident hostess extraordinaire, Monika, traveled to Medjugorje, a small village in Bosnia and Herzegovina for a holy pilgrimmage.
While Monika’s Catholic faith is a big part of her life, she notes that people from all different faith backgrounds visit Medjugorje. We also acknowledge and affirm all spiritual & religious endeavors that people pursue to bring them peace & deeper meaning, and we find great joy in getting curious about the pursuits of our team & extended Prism family.
This trip was really interesting to hear about, so we’re excited to share some pictures and stories from chatting with Monika about her recent travels!
If you’ve been somewhere cool lately, send us some pics & travel recs so we can spread the word!
Where did you go & why did you choose this place?
I traveled on a Holy Pilgrimage to the small village of Medjugorje located in Bosnia and Herzegovina. I went because I had a calling in my heart to go. It is a place where pilgrims deepen their faith and can receive blessings, graces, and healings. Since 1981, the Blessed Virgin Mary has been appearing to visionaries from the small village, where she is giving messages to the WORLD.
How long did it take to travel there? How did you entertain yourself during all the travel time?
It took almost 2 days to get there! Watched movies, prayed my rosary, took naps, read
What did you do/see while you were there?
It is more about “what you experience” than “what you see” on this pilgrimage.
Two of the main spots I went to “see” are Apparition Hill and Cross Mountain. Apparition Hill is where the first apparition of Our Lady took place. Cross Mountain (much bigger than Apparition Hill) is the Mountain you reflect on the stations of the cross on the way up. At the top, there is a giant white cross which holds a piece of Jesus’ cross relic built in it. This relic was gifted from Pope Pius XI in 1933. Cross Mountain is a journey where pilgrims call to meet Jesus in His Passion.
I felt so much peace in Medjugorje. It is my first day back home, and I am still carrying the peace within me.
Did you eat anything interesting or unique?
Nothing out of the ordinary, but I did happen to find a nice restaurant in front of St. James Church called Gardens. Medjugorje is right across the Adriatic Sea from Italy. This was an Italian restaurant where I ordered homemade spinach ravioli, and it was beyond delicious!
What would you recommend for others traveling here?
Restaurant Recommendations: Gardens, Hotel Grace, Viktors (all located on the street in front of St. James)
Books recommended to read about Medjugorje:
Medjugorje: The Message by Wayne Weible
Queen of the Cosmos: Interviews with the Visionaries of Medjugorje by Jan Connell
